Respect versus Acting Respectfully

Respect

The word respect has many connotations.

There are people in this world I respect.

Some for their bravery. Others for their kindness or faithfulness or other quality they possess.

I admire them, and in many cases, try to emulate the qualities they exhibit.

Having respect for someone is about who they are and how they act.

Acting Respectfully

Then there’s acting respectfully — courteously –toward everyone.

Even if I don’t agree with them.

Even if they don’t display any admirable qualities.

Even if they don’t treat me respectfully.

Being respectful to others is about me and how I choose to act.

Treating others the way I want to be treated is how I want to act. I’m grateful God helps me be respectful even when it’s difficult.
