What Is Integrity?
One definition of integrity is doing the right thing even when nobody is looking. But I’d like to add a caveat. Integrity is the conscious decision to do the right thing all the time, even when it is difficult.
Integrity on purpose is my goal.
Do I always succeed? Of course not.
But there are plenty of opportunities to keep trying.
Whether it’s the simple conscious decision to prepare healthy food instead of succumbing to food commercials or restaurants that offer morsels that are unhealthy for me, or treating someone with kindness when they have not been kind, integrity on purpose is hard work.
What helps me act with integrity on purpose?
One way is to think through the consequences of my decision and actions. But sometimes, even the consequences don’t motivate me to do the right thing.
But I have a sure-fire way to get motivated to do the right thing on purpose.
I ask God to:
— Help me do what He wants me to do — which is always acting with integrity on purpose.
— Give me everything I need to act that way: the ability, the motivation, the courage no matter what, and the stamina to complete those tasks.

Great post, Joni! Once again you made me think and evaluate how I’m living my life. Integrity is very important to me. Asking God for help is the only thing we can do.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Jane. I’m glad my post was helpful.
Several years ago, I made the decison to be more kind. It’s not that I was habitually unkind, but I wanted to consistently and consciously be kind–all the time. I knew this was not something I could do alone. So I prayed about it and continue to do so and it has been lifechanging for me (and for others with whom I’m in contact with on a regular basis). Even strangers have benefitted from the “new me.” So, in answer to your question, our loving Father has helped me on this journey–kindness and integrity with a purpose.
Thanks for sharing, Katherine. I’m grateful God helps me carry out the conscious decisions to help others.
Great post, Joni. We can do all things through Christ, but apart from Him we can’t do anything.
Thanks, Phyllis. I’m so glad I know that God is there and helps us.
Thank you, Joni.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Tim. I’m glad my post was helpful.
“Walking the walk” is important. People are watching, sometimes seeing us for the first time. What impression do we want to leave?
Thanks, Tim. Yes, I try to remember that we are a message – and it matters what message we convey.
Great post, Joni!
Thanks for reading and commenting, Barbara. I’m glad the post was helpful.
