For many, the beginning of January means getting honest about something that needs to change. A time to face the truth about ______________ (whatever needs facing).
Perhaps it is:
— A change in some habit such as too much food, not enough healthy food, or not enough healthy exercise.
— Facing what the money situation and finances really are.
— Owning up to a character flaw such as controlling others because that flaw damages them and destroys precious relationships.
— Acknowledging that letting go of a God-given dream was a mistake, and realizing God is waiting for us to do our part so He can fulfill His purposes for us.
Getting honest about something that needs to change is usually very painful for me. I ignore the reality of the situation because I don’t want to deal with the consequences or pain.
But taking time to face the truth is the only way to open the door to get out of that pain. There are other steps to take after facing the truth. But getting honest comes first.
And the time to face the truth isn’t a “once-a-year on January 1st” decision.
If I want a healthier and more secure life surrounded by trusted, caring people, I have to face the truth about whatever I need to face — whenever I need to face it.
My prayer for all of us is to face the truth about whatever needs facing, so the door can open to more freedom and joy.

Great blog, Joni. For me, God’s word brings me face to face with the changes I need to make in my life. I’m thankful He is loving and patient as He continually perfects the good work He has started in me (Phil. 1:6❤️). Blessings to you!
Totally agree, Kim. Thank you for reading and commenting.
Many times it’s hard to see the truth whether it is with ourselves or others. We are easily deceived. I try to look for scriptures about what I think I’m seeing in myself and work on my obedience. As for others, I pray for discernment. And, I have to trust Jesus’ Words in John 8:31-32 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Thank you for your thoughtful comments and insight, Jane.
Facing the truth can be tough. It’s hard to turn away from the path we have set for ourselves. But if we seek God’s guidance, and consider it with the awe and respect it deserves, He will show us the path and give us the courage to change as needed. I’m not saying it will be easy.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts, Katherine. God’s help is my only hope to face life on life’s terms.
