I think most people at some point in their lives want to be part of a group they perceive as “cool” or “special”. Being part of the in crowd means achieving the pinnacle of popularity.
During my school years, I don’t think I or my friends constituted the group other people dreamed of joining. If someone did, I never realized it. And I pray I didn’t treat them badly or exclude them.
The sense of wanting to belong and be accepted is something every human carries.
Whether it’s the popular crowd in school, or the people who have achieved success in business or a hobby we love, it’s painful not to be accepted into that group.
I experienced that pain recently when I was denied acceptance in a group I’ve admired for many years.
To overcome a disappointment of that nature, I have to remind myself that God:
— Is in control of my life
— Loves me and protects me from harm I can’t perceive
— Has a better plan for me than that group would provide
And most importantly, I remind myself that no matter what group on earth I belong to, or not, I belong to the only “in” crowd that really matters:
I’ve accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, and have put my hope in Him.
By being part of that in crowd, my membership benefit is to spend eternity with God.
And that’s very cool indeed.

Thank you for reading and your comments, Tim. I’m grateful you are part of the in crowd as well. 🙂
Awe… what a great blog post! Yes, we may be rejected by people on earth, but God doesn’t reject us when we seek Him. I love to think of what you said… that we’re part of the in crowd by knowing Jesus. 💗
I appreciate you reading and sharing, Jane. Thankful you are part of my “in crowd” here on earth, and will be in the group for eternity. 🙂
