September 17 – A Day of Great Beginnings

Some days bring the beginning of something great – an event that resounds through history.

September 17 is one of those days – at least three times in America.

In 1787, the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia. By delegates who had rebelled against oppression, battled for freedom, and helped others live free as well.

In 1849, Harriet Tubman escaped slavery for the first time. She rebelled against the oppression in her world, battled to win freedom, and helped others win their freedom.

In 1976, the first shuttle, Enterprise, was unveiled. So many had rebelled against beliefs that man couldn’t fly, had battled to learn how to reach the stars, and helped so many others believe and reach for their dreams.

Every day is the beginning of something. And that beginning can yield great and wonderful things.

What event has helped you begin, and persevere in, a worthy battle?

  1. We were married on September 17th. This year it was our 46th anniversary. And it has definitely been a battle. I think Satan wants to destroy every marriage if he can. I have learned about people and relationships, matured in how I react to things, and developed a deeper relationship with God through the years because of September 17th.

  2. Thanks, Joni. Great post.
