Remembering the Sacrifice of Many
In one degree or another, most of us know what sacrifice is.
We also know the price we’ve paid for what we sacrificed.
One example is the military men and women who serve during wartime. They sacrifice being in the presence of loved ones for the time they are away. They serve to protect or restore their way of life and ensure the safety of others. Their families and friends sacrifice being near their soldier, and all of the sorrow and worry that comes with their absence. And everyone wants them safely home.
I believe that most of us would sacrifice whatever was needed to save those we love.
Remembering the Sacrifice of Christmas
For many, Christmas is a time of celebration. The time we pause and remember the coming of Christ, our Savior. And we do our best to express unending gratitude for the moment when the plan to save us became tangible on the earth.
But the story behind the story, is that Jesus was born because God chose to sacrifice Who He loves to save the others He loves.
And Jesus sacrificed everything. Even my wild imagination can’t fathom how terrible it was for Jesus, holy and perfect, to live in a world full of pain, and sorrow, and unkindness, and hatred, and depravity, and evil.
To save the ones He loves.
So this season, I’m remembering sacrifice.
By expressing unending gratitude, that for the time Jesus was away, God chose to sacrifice being in the Presence of His Son, and all that came with Jesus’ absence.
And that Jesus sacrificed everything to restore us, as the only Way of Life that will bring us safely home.
