Gratitude Changes Attitude

The struggling, little tree on the left is in my yard.

The thriving, huge tree on the right is in my neighbor’s yard.

It’s difficult not to be envious or upset that my tree isn’t like my neighbor’s tree.

And yet, my tree is doing its best to survive. It’s a bit healthier than last year.

And if I change my perspective, I can look past my struggling tree to see what it will become if it continues to grow.

My spirit is like that.

When I’m struggling with life and doing my best to survive, it’s difficult not to be envious or upset that others seem to be more successful.

But when I list what I’m grateful for, my attitude becomes more positive.

My mind, body, and spirit become healthier.

And I can look past my struggles to see what I will become if I continue to nurture gratitude — and grow.

  1. You’re so right about gratitude. I’ve found lately that when I find just one thing to be grateful for, then something else will come to mind, and then one more thing and it snowballs. Just being grateful for small things, like a cup of coffee on a beautiful sunny fall afternoon will lift the spirits.

  2. Amen, Joni! The other day when I was in a cranky mood, God
reminded me to thank Him for His many blessings. And sure enough, my focus changed. I need to keep looking up!! Blessings to you , my friend.

Thanks, Kim. Yes, gratitude is always a sure way to get me out of a bad mood. Blessings and prayers to you, too!

  3. Thanks, Joni. An attitude of gratitude changes our perspective so much. God encourages us to be thankful. Wouldn’t surprise me if that was one of the reasons

  4. Gratitude changes our lives. When we reflect on the plethora of blessings we have rather than focusing on what we don’t have, we recognize even more wonderful things. This season, Autumn, grants us a wonderfu lesson–everywhere we look is beauty, but we have to open our eyes and take the time to look to experience the gift of the season.
