Time to imagine…

I wish I had written “To Kill A Mockingbird.” But I would have had Tom Robinson be acquitted. And I would have had Atticus save Boo from his abusive family. Injustice is difficult to bear.

Of course, I know a happy ending would not have had the impact that Harper Lee’s ending carried. It taught many in my generation about how life was, and gave us the opportunity to decide who we wanted to be. Thank you, Nelle Harper, for your bravery and wit and words.

  1. Joni,

I love your thoughts on To Kill A Mockingbird. How fun to imagine! I would love to have been so smart to write a piece of history like Laura Ingalls Wilder did. I love her descriptions and life lessons from Pa and Ma Ingalls and her own mistakes. I can’t think of a thing I would change in the books, but I wish the television series had followed the books. When I run across it flipping channels, I just roll my eyes and change the channel as quickly as possible.

    • Thanks so much for your comment! I love the Little House show (the Hollywood endings…ha) – but have never read the books. I’ll add them to my list!
