154 years is a long time. A long time to cherish, and enjoy, and nurture the nature that nurtures us.
That’s what the United States has done for Yellowstone, our first national park.
Explorers, people who loved the outdoors, and forward-thinking Americans, worked to get a law passed to preserve something irreplaceable. And President Ulysses S. Grant, a general who had endured the unspeakable horrors of a war that almost destroyed America, is the man who signed the legislation into law on March 1, 1872.
I’m thankful that they, and people in every generation of Americans after them, realized that:
— Land to sustain life is necessary. But surviving isn’t enough.
— Land to nurture the spirit is also essential. It helps us thrive.
I’m praying we continue to nurture the land, knowing it nurtures us.

It is soothing, and with the warmer days, I’ve opened my windows to hear the birds singing. I’m also enjoying the blooms of a cherry tree and Jonquils. An instagram post was shared with me recently that said, “neuroscience just confirmed something powerful: Intentional birdwatching can rewire the brain.” Then they shared from Matthew 6:26 “Jesus told us to ‘look at’ (or consider) the birds, first.”
Thanks for sharing the nature that’s comforting to you.
