Just Listen To Yourself

When I Didn’t Listen

I can recall times in my life when I was speaking, and the other person in the conversation replied, “Just listen to yourself!”

Usually their response was a reproach because I had just said something negative.

Why I Need To Listen

The longer I’m on this earth, the more deeply I understand the power and impact of words.

I need to be mindful and run every thought and word through the following filters:

Think of the person you love the most in this world. Would it break your heart if that person:

— Talked to themselves the way you talk to yourself?

— Perceived themselves the way you see yourself?

— Made a mistake, and punished themselves for decades because they couldn’t forgive themselves?

Even if you don’t know another person who would be heartbroken to hear you speak that way…

God loves us all as if we are the most important person in the world.

And He is heartbroken when we mistreat ourselves or others.

I don’t want to break God’s heart.

How I Learn To Listen

I need to ask God to:

— Renew my mind so I think what He wants.

— Help me guard my mouth so all my words are He wants me to say.

What helps you think and say words that are helpful?
