Why the Right Word Matters

The quest for the exact right word can be one of the most labor-intensive, time-consuming, and frustrating activities a writer can attempt.

Because the right word can catapult the writing from mediocrity to excellence.

It conveys the meaning perfectly.

There is a reason why the writer chose that word.

And when the words are right, they have the power to transform the reader in some way.

When the Right Word is Difficult

As a reader, sometimes that right word isn’t the one I want to see.

I Thessalonians 5:18 states: “give thanks in all circumstances”.

Seriously? Give thanks whatever the circumstance? For as long as it lasts?

Some of God’s words are easier to handle emotionally and carry out than others. Ugh.

But His words are always the exact right ones.

They convey His meaning perfectly.

The Right Word is Necessary

And there is a reason He chose those words.

Because another part of God’s word, Deuteronomy 28:1-14 promises that if I obey God’s commands, He will bless me wherever I go and in whatever I do. And protect me from my enemies.

And even more important, there are multiple verses that convey what Isaiah 41:10c states: “I will strengthen you and help you.”

The Right Word Transforms

And most important, God’s word, and its inherent message of love, has the power to transform every reader.

One way God’s word has changed me, is from a person who obeyed to get the things He promised, to a person who wants to obey Him to show my love for Him. Whatever the circumstance.
