My Social Media Prayer

What I Post and Why

Through the years, I’ve attended classes about social media. One of the most difficult and important things I learned, is to determine what I was going to post.

Because I love God and belong to Him, I made the decision that I want my posts to:

— Add value
— Reflect the truth that God doesn’t want any man to spend eternity without Him
— Mirror God’s love so He can use the posts to draw people to Him
— Be diplomatic even if I post about difficult topics

What I Don’t Want to Post and Why

Above all, I don’t want my worst moment to be on social media.

Let me repeat that:

I don’t want my worst moment to be on social media.

It’s bad enough to have moments when I’m judgmental or harsh or unforgiving. But to have others witness those times makes it even worse. Because it harms not only my influence, but it hurts others.

One word, one meme, one snotty remark, one jab at another person, can wipe out the impact of a thousand posts where I add value and reflect God’s love and kindness.

I’m heartbroken when I miss the mark. And equally heartbroken when people I know and care for miss the mark as well.

My Social Media Prayer

So my prayer for social media – for myself and for others – is:

Please, God, let everything on social media reflect You and draw others to You. Someone’s eternity may depend on it.

  1. What a great post! Thanks for showing us your heart for God. It is motivating for me. I think encouragement from people like you help me remember to reflect God’s love and show kindness on social media.

    • As always, Jane, I appreciate you reading and sharing about my blog posts. So thankful you are my friend, and that you reflect God’s love. 🙂

  2. Joni, thank you for posting this because it’s a reminder for me to “don’t be so quick to click, but wait and let it marinate.” (I think I’ll put that on a Post-it and stick it on my laptop 🙂

  3. Thank you for this, Joni. Great post and reminder. I try to be kind when commenting, no matter my comment, and on my blog posts, I want the reader to have hope in Christ.

    • Thank you, Tim, for your comments. Your blog is always thoughtful and helps me remember important things about life. 🙂

  4. I wish more people would be as thoughtful and considerate of others. God bless you, Joni.

    • Thanks for sharing, Judy. It reminds me of the verse that says I’ll have to answer for every careless word. Words where I “cared less” than I should have. You’re one of the most caring people I know. I appreciate you!
