Fifty years ago, Martin Cooper invented the first handheld mobile phone.
Your mind may be reeling. You might be thinking, “Surely mobile phones haven’t been around half a century.”
Actually, various mobile technologies were being developed decades before then.
But I’ll offer a small bit of comfort for everyone who might be feeling distressed. Apparently, the prototype of that phone only provided a talk time of 30 minutes, and took 10 hours to recharge.
To modify an advertising slogan, “We’ve come a long way, baby.”
And just so you know, the slogan, “You’ve come a long way, baby”, was used to sell Virginia Slim cigarettes.
In 1968. Fifty-five years ago.

The only things I remember from that time period is that our family first started eating pizza. We were introduced to it by a woman at church. We had never heard of pizza. Our first pizzas were homemade and more like a hamburger pie with a bisquick crust. We also ate Cherry Yum Yum and Shamrock salad. Shamrock salad was a green jello mixed with sour cream, pineapple, and pecans. Dream Whip was used in the making of Cherry Yum Yum.

You had me thinking about commercials. Two that immediately came to mind were younger than I thought. Wendy’s “Where’s the Beef?” – 1984 (39 years) and Alka Seltzer “Plop Plop Fizz Fizz, Oh What a Relief It Is.” – 1976 (47 years).
